National U squandered a 12-point lead but held on to a 71-67 win over erstwhile unbeaten Santo Tomas to create a heavy logjam for second spot in the UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum yesterday.

The triumph – NU’s second in three outings – put the Bulldogs into a share of second with UST, idle La Salle, and Adamson, which defeated University of the East in the first game, 78-71.

The De La Salle Green Archers overcame a double-digit halftime deficit to defeat their arch rivals Ateneo, 82-73, for the first time since 2010, and drop the Blue Eagles to a 0-3 record in the UAAP Season 76 men's basketball tournament.

Down 12 points at the half, the Green Archers outscored the Blue Eagles 54-33 in the final two quarters in the game attended by over 15,000 fans Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

ATENEO coach Bo Perasol has no intention of pressing the panic button just yet, convinced the Blue Eagles can get out of the woods after dropping their first two games in the UAAP Season 76 men’s basketball championship.

“Masyadong maaga pa,” Perasol told Malaya-Business Insight in an interview yesterday, a day after Ateneo, the reigning five-time champion, came up short against Far Eastern University in overtime 75-79.

The Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws look to take the early lead in the UAAP Season 76 men's basketball tournament when they take on the Ateneo Blue Eagles on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Tamaraws, who flew under the radar in the pre-season, sent a warning to the rest of the league when they stunned Filoil champions University of the East, 89-78, with guard Terrence Romeo nearly tallying a triple-double.

The Adamson Soaring Falcons wasted no time in getting right into the win column as they downed the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, 79-67, in Season 76 of the UAAP men’s basketball tournament yesterday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

In the second game, the reigning champions Ateneo Blue Eagles suffered greatly from the injury of Kiefer Ravena as they got thumped by the National University (NU) Bulldogs, 54-64.

THE ATENEO Blue Eagles aim to end the year with a bang as they gun for the title in the 2012 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) when they battle their nemesis the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers in the deciding Game Three today at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

Ateneo was able to bounce back from their 76-82 loss in the opener of this series with a thrilling 70-69 win in Game Two to force the rubbermatch for the title.

UAAP Volleyball: Lady Eagles continue to roll while UST falls to NU

Dindin Santiago powered NU with 24 points off 18 kills and three aces, while Myla Pablo added 18. It was a team effort for the hosts, as Aiko Urdas and Maricar Nepomuceno also chipped in 12 and 11, respectively, for the team's first win after an opening day loss to Adamson on Saturday.

The Tigresses fell as veteran Maru Banaticla struggled for just three points. Maika Ortiz, who was instrumental in the team's five-set win against DLSU, was also limited to only seven. Team captain Judy Caballejo also only had 10, as Pamela Lastimosa led the team with 12.

MANILA, Philippines – University of the Philippines stunned University of Santo Tomas 25-21, 18-25, 25-11, 25-23 Wednesday in the UAAP Season 75 men’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Dominico Lucindo led the Fighting Maroons with 13 points while Sam Paquiz and Julius Raymundo added 12 markers each.
